Overcome the Impossible...

Honestly, I think on most days this type of thinking goes unchecked.  I am guilty of having this word in my vocabulary - especially when sitting down and goal setting.  Often times we set goals very modestly - or not at all - and use the word impossible to justify that mindset.  In my personal goal setting, I am guilty - "I could never run that far, I could never learn how to do that, it would be impossible to..."

However, I have decided that it is time for a change.  In business, I've always known that this way of thinking is completely out of the question.  I believe in what I do, I believe in what other small businesses do and I feel we are the future and hope of our community.  We continue to go to our work place, continue to offer of ourselves to the community and continue to overcome the odds and the impossible! Take a moment this week and stop in to a small business - don't just look, spend what you can to show you believe in what we do as well.  This is one area that YOU can make a difference.

• Pick-up a bunch of fresh flowers to show someone you are thinking of them at Absolute Design By Brenda at 29th & Croco.
• Begin your comittment to getting back in shape  - start investing in your health and get the support you need at Great Plains Running Company on 29th near Wanamaker - it's not just for runners, stop in and see!
• Make a point to relax, grab some candles and meditate more - naturally at Marion Lane Candles - 713 S. Kansas Avenue.

I love this quote!  I find it so true ~ even I am guilty of this notion.  Many times I notice different things around Topeka and make a mental note ~ but I don't always take action.  I have set a new goal to get up and take action - to share some of my favorite things that I discover around Topeka - everything from events to other retailers who have items or services that are fabulous!  I always think to myself, surely everyone knows about this place - and then those familiar words pop into my head.  The many folks who come into our retail store after our 5 years in downtown and say, "Wow, I didn't know you were here" or "I didn't know you carried/made/have _________ (fill in the blank)."  So next time you go somewhere fabulous - share it!  Tell someone or tell us - we'll help pass the word!

Back to candles - this week we will be re-stocking and re-ordering after the busy Hullabaloo event.  We have been getting some new items in as well.  If you have a Lampe Berger, you will want to stop in and check out the 3 new fragrances:  Pure Leather, White Musk and Orange Blossoms.  We also received the Discovery Pack Lampe and Fragrance Sets.  They are clear glass cubes with two trial bottles of fragrance in Ocean Breeze and Fresh Linen.  These sets are a Limited Edition and are a great introductory price of $55.00.  Another great item is the Bucolique Lampe which comes with a 16.9 fl. oz. bottle of Lilac Blossoms.  This is a Limited Edition bottle as well - and it's pricing is phenomenal - $50 for the Lampe & Fragrance!  Both of these have limited stock ~ I wouldn't wait if I were you!

  

Hullabaloo Update!

I felt this quote was a perfect lead-in to talk about the highlights from the 44th Annual Hullabaloo Sidewalk sale in downtown Topeka, KS.  We were very happy with the continued support of our locally owned business and equally pleased with the amount of new customers who ventured in to see what we are all about!  Annie, the candle dog, has been busy selecting Hullabaloo prize tickets from the ticket jar...

This summer has been full of ups and downs for a lot of area businesses - we are sad to see a neighbor - the downtown Hallmark store - leaving our family.  However, there are still many gift shops that warrant a good look around.  Several downtown merchants have added cards from various vendors to continue to offer that extra touch to a gift or a personal note to a co-worker or friend. 

We continue to have our in-store candle making, fundraising opportunities, tours and parties, and exciting new products arriving for an exciting transition into Fall!  Upcoming events will be posted here and through all of our social networks!  Oh, and Annie is working on a special corner in our store ~ she'll be barking about it soon!
